9 Benefits Of White Kidney Bean Extract

In its raw uncooked form, kidney beans contain a high concentration of phytohemagglutinin, which are considered toxic. However, when cooked; kidney beans provide nutrients which have been found to be beneficial for the body.

There are 4 commonly known types of kidney beans. The red, light speckled, red speckled and white kidney bean.

For many, consuming kidney beans is not at the top of the list of ‘to dos’. For this reason taking it in extract or supplement format has proven to be the simplest way for many to reap the benefits.

The white kidney bean’s extract is considered to help with weight loss, we’re going to explore this extract in a little more detail.

Benefits of White Kidney Bean Extract

First off, white kidney beans have been used for a number of different health purposes throughout history. Here are a few of them.

  • Moderate blood sugar
  • Fight insulin resistance
  • Protection against diabetes
  • Prevents heart disease
  • Enhances athletic performance
  • Increases energy
  • Eases arthritis and other joint issues.
  • Helps the immune system
  • Prevents colon cancer

That’s a lot of things for one little bean to do. But in this article, we’re going to focus on the use of white kidney bean extract in order to help with weight loss. The main way that it is said to help with weight loss is because it prevents an enzyme known as alpha-amylase from doing what is supposed to do. This enzyme naturally breaks down carbohydrates into sugar.

So where does the white kidney bean extract come in? When you take white kidney bean extract, it slows down the activity of the alpha-amylase, which means that fewer carbohydrates are being turned into sugars. That means that, in turn, there are fewer sugars to then convert into fat.

It seems a bit complicated, but it’s rather simple. That’s why white kidney bean extract has been believed to help with weight loss and preventing obesity.

Of course, there is limited research on this. The few studies that have been done do seem to suggest that it can have some effect on weight loss, and those have all been fairly recent (between 2005 and now).

The most significant one involved 60 people, half taking a placebo, the other half taking white kidney bean extract. Those taking the extract ended up losing weight and fat mass. As you can see, it was a small-scale study and there needs to be more research before a definite call can be made as to whether or not white kidney bean extract helps with weight loss.

Does White Kidney Bean Extract Have Any Side Effects?

Because most white kidney bean extract supplements are all natural, there are not many side effects associated with them. Now, of course, if you take them a lot, you may have certain gastrointestinal side effects, but those side effects are no different than if you physically ate beans (bloating, nausea, gas, diarrhea, etc). No serious side effects have been recorded.

Effectiveness of White Kidney Bean Extract

As mentioned above, there is a lot of research that needs to be performed before white kidney bean extract can be recommended for weight loss. Even if we could make a clear call, it wouldn’t work without regular diet and exercise, because no weight loss supplement does.

It will be interesting to see if white kidney bean extract starts to become a regular ingredient in weight loss supplements in the future as more research is done in relation to the extract. If you want to try white kidney bean extract for yourself, there is nothing to be concerned about; the worst that can happen is that it doesn’t work.

As with any supplement, diet, or exercise program, consult with a doctor before you start anything. Your doctor can provide you with valuable resources and medical advice that will help you in your weight loss journey.
